Not a few of us start the morning without a cup of coffee. Besides the fact that it tastes really good, with or without milk, coffee gives us extra energy and improves our mood whether we are at home or at work.

Nowadays coffee is definitely one of the most consumed products containing caffeine along with soft drinks and tea.

Mode of action of the coffee on the human body

Coffee is used by consumers to reduce fatigue, it improves reaction time and alertness and can create good mood.

Coffee stimulates the secretion of saliva and gastric juice as well intestinal transit favoring the digestion therefore it is not recommended for those with diseases like gastritis, gastric or duodenal ulcer. Some studies indicate that substances from coffee may reduce the appearance of certain cancers, such as liver and colon cancer. Coffee consumption does not influence the risk of coronary heart disease and may prevent gallstones at women.

Coffee compounds and their role

Coffee contains antioxidants that prevent cell damage and the onset of some diseases.

Caffeine the main element from the composition of the grains of coffee temporarily reduces fatigue, increases intellectual activity, stimulates the nervous system and favors the digestion by stimulating the activity of the excretory system. Acts on the respiratory tract and is a good remedy for headaches and migraines because dilates the blood vessels.

Studies suggest that the low level of caffeine content in a cup of coffee improves the power of decision and reaction speed.  Caffeine is found not only in coffee but it is an important component of tea, chocolate, and soft drinks or energizing, and of some medicines to combat headaches, colds and allergies. The quantity of caffeine in coffee varies widely depending on it type (or soluble coffee maker, strong or weak). It is rapidly absorbed and is eliminated just as fast from the body within a period of three to six hours.

Contraindications brought to the coffee

Besides the benefits of a moderate consumption coffee has also contraindications. Those with conditions such as chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, gastric or duodenal ulcer, gout, neurosis, hypertension and chronic gastroenteritis would be better to avoid drinking coffee. The coffee is not recommended for children, adolescents, and especially for women at menopause and post menopause because favors osteoporosis. Even caffeine has side effects on the human body because it favors calcium loss an important nutrient for health.

From habit to addiction

There is a difference between the two terms. The symptoms of the physical addiction of coffee include the need to increase the amount of substance to satisfy this appetite. In moderate amounts caffeine do not acts on the areas of the brain linked to addiction.

Negative effects of drinking to much coffee : disturbance in the digestive system, causes palpitations, insomnia, anxiety, depression, tremors and muscle weakness.

In conclusion, coffee should be consumed in moderation, without excesses as all these are affecting the health of our body. It is recommended a single cup of coffee per day and that drunk only in the morning.
