Beneficial and Harmful Foods for Healthy Teeth

You asked why apples are so good for teeth? The answer is very simple and logical. Not only apples, but any fruit or vegetables which have a water content increased that dilute sugar content and stimulates saliva production.

Colored or decayed teeth too? It’s not just a problem of hygiene and nutrition. It is important to know what to eat to prevent pain, staining or tearing teeth enamel. Consequently, it provides a better wash of food particles, decreases acidity of the fruits and we can fight more effectively with the caries.

Here are some of the foods which are beneficial for the health of our teeth:

Water – as saliva, water helps to rinse sugars and acid on the teeth. However, fluoride or minerals strengthens teeth and protects them from erosion. Fluoride is found in toothpaste for adults, one for children generally not have fluoride to avoid the accumulation of more quantity than children body can assimilate.

Milk and cheese – milk and cheese are the main source of calcium in our diets, and calcium is the main mineral that strengthens teeth and bones. Moreover, certain minerals in cheese repairs tooth enamel which can be cracked from acidic drinks or food.

Salads – spinach, arugula and any type of lettuce are rich in iron and helps to keep cholesterol under control, helps digestion, but perhaps most importantly, requires more chewing than other foods. Thus, we clean teeth while eating salads because these contain plenty of water and at the same time, produce more saliva.

Strawberries – their season is coming and we are happy to tell you that they are a great ally for a healthy smile, contain malic acid, a natural whitener for teeth. Note, however, that their seed may get between the teeth and can be difficult to remove. Make sure you have a floss for a carefully clean!

Foods that harm our teeth:

Experts point out that certain foods can destroy our teeth. Here are four of them:

Hard candy with sugar (candy, lollipops, candy mints or candy). They contain so much sugar, some stick to teeth and favor the emergence of bacteria and decay.

Pretzels – sometimes choose pretzels for a snack because we think that it is sweet and does not affect our teeth. But the pretzels or biscuits carbohydrates turn into sugar very quickly in the mouth damaging tooth enamel. Also, attention to potato chips or fried potatoes.

Wine – red or white, both colors and harm the enamel, and some of the foods that contain acid erosion. In fact, a simple rule tells us that those foods that stain the tablecloth and worries a housewife will also stain teeth. In the same category fall and black coffee or tea!

Pickles – hard to believe, but pickles affects the enamel strongly because acidity resulting from conservation, in some cases causing more rapid wear of the tooth. It is recommended not to eat pickles more than once a day and then with food to compensate the acidity.
